How I (sort of) manage my ADHD as a bio major

I wrote out a list of rules for myself to follow, complete with snark to my future self.

I write all my homework assignments and things that I need to do on my white board. I then put them in red pen on my calendar for the days they’re due. Exams are also on the calendar, highlighted in orange, and blue pen for other commitments.

I have my class schedule up, because even half way through the year last year I’d forget that I had class. They’re highlighted in a color-coded fashion, like Organic Chem is highlighted in yellow and my notebook and folder and lab notebook for that class are also yellow.

I’ve also been taking notes on my laptop for some classes that don’t need hand-drawn figures or equations and then later transcribing them by hand into my notebook in a way that’s neat and organized, which forces me to review my notes and then I have better notes from which to study.

I still struggle with staying on top of things, but forcing myself to be organized helps. I’m only taking 15 hours this semester, but it’s Calc-Based Physics for Science and Engineering (with a lab), Organic Chem I (with a lab), Genetics (as honors), Cell Biology (as honors), and Biological Investigations (as honors). I really cannot afford to get behind this semester.
